BHNA CCRT Mission Statement

The Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association is forming a Citizen Crisis Response Team.

Our goal is to raise awareness of disaster preparedness in the neighborhood, establish relationships with the city and first responders, and organize a neighborhood response plan to ensure that we can take advantage of the skills available in our neighborhood in the event of a
major disaster.

As shown by Hurricane Katrina here in the U.S., and the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan, disasters with a large enough scope can overwhelm state and local governments and cause enough physical damage to national infrastructure to make federal assistance slow to arrive, and difficult to disperse.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey and the Geological and Planetary Science department at Caltech, the southern San Andreas Fault is well overdue for a major earthquake. In the geological record, there is evidence that the Fault has a 7.8 or greater magnitude quake every 150 years on average, and it has been over 300 years since the Fault has had an earthquake of that magnitude in its southern span.

If our neighborhood is prepared, we are more likely to be able to help ourselves, our families, and neighbors.
